LEADERS SHOULD PRACTICE CONTINUOUS ACTIVE LEARNING

Continuous Active Learning (CAL) is a phrase used to describe software tools used in electronic discovery document review in litigation. A key feature of CAL is that the tool is continuously “learning” based on input from the individuals reviewing the documents. The “training” of the software by the document reviewers never stops. Thus, the learning never ends.

CAL is also something leaders should be doing and something they should be encouraging their direct and indirect reports to do. Even the best leaders can learn and grow and should actively seek learning and growth opportunities. True leaders continuously read books, articles, and blogs to find growth opportunities. True leaders also attend seminars, listen to podcasts, and watch webinars for ideas to help them become better leaders. CAL is not just a concept for computers. It should be a fundamental part of every leader’s daily routine.
